Guideline 8

Stakeholders, responsibilities and roles

The roles and responsibilities of the researchers and research support staff participating in a research project must be clear at each stage of the project.

Explanations:

The participants in a research project engage in regular dialogue. They define their roles and responsibilities in a suitable way and adapt them where necessary. Adaptations are likely to be needed if the focus of a participant’s work changes.

Roles and responsibilities in larger teams

Not only can the focus of the work of those involved change, the orientation required to achieve the objective can also change over the course of a research project. Staff changes can also come about for personal reasons, leading to changes in the individuals involved as well as roles and responsibilities. Since findings in the engineering sciences can only be developed based on teamwork, there are usually various participants involved, with dynamically shifting roles and responsibilities.
